Privacy Policy

MicLocker collects no personal data. Not from the app, not from this website. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics and no tracking of any kind.
This policy explains how information is handled when you use the MicLocker app for macOS (the “App”) and this website, including the Support & feedback page (together, the “Services”). If anything here is unclear, write to us from the Support page and we will explain it in plain language.
1. What the App does not do
MicLocker has one job: it remembers which microphone you chose and puts that choice back when macOS switches away from it. Everything in the list below is something the App deliberately does not do.
- It never accesses your microphone. MicLocker selects which input device your Mac uses. It does not open, read, record or listen to the audio itself, which is why macOS never shows you a microphone permission prompt for it.
- It has no network access. The App makes no internet connections. Nothing it knows can leave your Mac, because there is nowhere for it to go.
- It contains no analytics or tracking. No third-party SDKs, no advertising, no crash reporters of our own, no unique identifiers assigned to you.
- It has no accounts. No name, no email address, no password, no payment details are ever requested by the App.
- It shows no advertisements. There are no ad networks and no advertising partners involved in any part of the App.
2. What the App stores on your Mac
To do its job across restarts, MicLocker saves a small amount of information in the standard macOS preferences storage for the app, inside your own user account:
- The identifier and display name of the microphone you selected, so your choice survives a restart and so the menu can show that device as “not connected” when it is unplugged.
- Whether you asked MicLocker to start when you log in.
This information stays on your Mac. It is never transmitted anywhere. Removing the App removes your ability to use it, and you can clear the stored choice at any time from within the App by choosing not to hold any microphone.
If you use iCloud or a backup tool that includes application preferences, that copy is handled by Apple or by the tool you chose, under their own terms, and not by us.
3. This website
This website is a set of static pages. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics, embeds no social media widgets, and loads no fonts, scripts or images from third-party servers. Nothing on it profiles you or follows you to other sites.
The site is served by a hosting provider, and like any web host it processes the technical information a browser has to send in order to receive a page, such as your IP address, the page requested, and your browser's user agent string. This is used to deliver the site and to protect it from abuse. We do not build profiles from it and we do not combine it with anything else.
4. When you contact us
The form on the Support & feedback page does not send anything to a server of ours. It prepares a message and hands it to your own email application, so you can see exactly what is being sent and change it before it leaves your machine. Nothing you type on that page is transmitted until you press send in your own mail app.
When you do email us, we receive what you chose to write, which normally means your email address, your name if you included it, and the content of your message. We use it only to understand your request and reply to you.
- We do not add you to any mailing list.
- We do not use support messages for marketing.
- We do not sell, rent or share this information with anyone.
We keep the conversation in our email inbox for as long as is reasonably useful for handling your request and remembering past issues. Ask us to delete a specific message and we will.
5. Information from Apple
MicLocker is distributed through the Mac App Store. Apple gives developers high-level, aggregated statistics through App Store Connect, such as how many people downloaded the app, and anonymous crash summaries when a user has opted in to sharing them with developers.
This information reaches us already grouped and anonymised. It does not identify you, and we have no way to link it back to an individual person. Apple's own privacy policy governs how Apple collects and processes it.
6. Security
The strongest protection here is structural rather than procedural: because the App has no network access and holds no personal data, there is no user database to breach and no data in transit to intercept. The App also runs inside the macOS App Sandbox, which limits what it is permitted to reach on your system.
For the small amount of information that does exist, namely support emails, we restrict access to the people who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
7. Children's privacy
MicLocker is a utility for Mac users of any age and is not directed at children. Because the App collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children either. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through a support email, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA, including the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal data, and the right not to be sold out to third parties.
In practice, most of those rights have nothing to act on here, because we hold no personal data about App users. The one exception is support correspondence. For that, you can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and we will act on the request. We may need to reply from the same email thread to be sure we are speaking to the right person.
We do not sell personal information, and we never have.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date at the top of the page changes with it. Continuing to use the App or this website after an update means you accept the updated policy.
10. Contact
Questions about this policy, or about how MicLocker handles information, are welcome.
Use the Support & feedback page to send us a message.
